Know your ground

A scooper that only works on a putting green isn't a tool, it's a prop. Yards are grass and bare dirt and pea gravel and the concrete strip by the gate, and the tool on the wall has to handle the whole map.

Soft and loose ground is rake territory. On grass, the teeth comb between blades and lift the target without scalping the lawn. On dirt, they pull cleanly instead of digging in and hauling soil along. On gravel and small rocks — the graveyard of plastic claws — the teeth ride over the stones and pick between them, which is exactly where the metal build earns its price.

Hard surfaces flip the physics: teeth can't grip slab, so the answer is a flat edge. That's the spade in our three-piece set — it scrapes patios, concrete runs and decking clean in a motion the rake can't make, and the XL tray catches everything either tool delivers.

The off-season bonus: the same rake-and-tray geometry is quietly excellent at leaves, garden debris and whatever autumn dumps on the walkway. One tool, four seasons, every surface on the property — that's the whole idea of the wall.
